Fractio Quest is a free resource developed as part of an Erasmus+ project, ‘FramingCLIL.’ Players must use their knowledge of fractions in a series of exciting challenges to help Captain Taylor and his assistant, River, to defeat the evil Skylord Quinn and find the lost city of Multiplicity and the Magic Compass. It consists of six games, designed and developed by a team of educational experts led by the Faculty of Education at Manchester Met in the UK in collaboration with colleagues from the University of Cordoba in Spain, VUB in Brussels, Belgium, Pedagosiche Hochshule in Salzburg, Austria and the Universita di Torino, Italy. The games aim to support maths and language development and are intended for use by teachers and children in schools and at home. Research has shown that fractions is an area of mathematics in which children experience significant difficulties and that language can often be a barrier to learning, especially for children whose first language is not the same as the main language being used in the classroom. These games have been designed to provide a safe, unpressurised and engaging space for learners to develop their knowledge and understanding of fractions as well as supporting their language development. This version is currently only available in English, French and Dutch with additional versions in Italian, Spanish, and German to follow in Spring 2020.
